Asaba, Nov 5, 2024 (NAN) The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Delta Command, has urged motorists to always speak up against reckless driving to remain alive.

The Delta Sector Commander, Mr Frederick Ogidan, said this at the flag-off of the 2024 Ember month campaign on Tuesday in Asaba.

The ember month campaign had its theme: “Speak Up Against Dangerous Driving: Road Accident Kill More Passengers Than Drivers.”

“We are shifting our emphasis from drivers to passengers during the campaign, for a driver to die, he must have killed a minimum of eight passengers.

“The ember month is characterised by traffic influx, and it is also characterised by road hazard and crashes, that is why people think evil spirits are at work.

“We know that vehicles influx is higher and drivers want to make quick money and that is why we have to alert members of the public to ensure they preach safety,” he said.

Ogidan said the command would be deploying every member of the FRSC on the road during the period.

“We are deploying over 1,000 personnel, over 25 patrol vehicles, 70 ton toll truck, power bikes, and over 600 Special Marshal personnel will be on the road throughout the period.

“We are not going to be on the road to penalise people but to preach safety and ensure that people get to their destination safely,” he said. (NAN)(nannews.com.ng)
