The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Person (NAPTIP) on Tuesday warned students against new slave trade merchants parading as helpers of their destiny.

The Zonal Commander, NAPTIP Benin Zonal Command, Mr Sam Offiah, gave the charge while inaugurating NAPTIP Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Persons Vanguard in Ozoro and Oleh to drive the advocacy against human trafficking in Delta.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that NAPTIP inaugurated 30 Students Anti-Trafficking Vanguard at Igbonine Grammar School, Ozoro and another 30 students at St. Michaels College, Oleh, in Isoko North and South Local Government Area of Delta.

Offiah, while addressing the students vanguards, charged them not to give in to the new slave traders and merchants of human organs in the society today.

According to him,the traffickers dehumanises, sells human organs, entice young children with gifts, deception and false promises to give them a better life abroad.

He warned that the traffickers could be members of the family, friends and associates who cashes in on their greed, desire and lust for money and materialism.

"You must not allow them to deceive you into being trafficked because they will exploit, coarse and engage you into forced labour and prostitution and even those whom we have rescued, said they had to drink their urine to survive.

"Others suffered sexual abuse, contract HIV-AID and other asexually transmitted diseases and victims who died were not properly buried but were eating by vultures.

"We needed to sensitise you on these things to expose their new ways and today, they come with use of Phone and social media to create advertisement for free jobs and scholarships to lure young children abroad.

"All are lies aimed at trafficking people into slavery and to dehumanise them through organ harvest, sexual exploitations and forced labour for economic gains.

He warned that "there is no free food in free land" adding that, "If they promise you free everything, then know that you are the product for sell"

"So, do not make yourself easy for traffickers, shun greed and desire to get rich quick but study and work hard to establish yourselves because good things do not come easy in life.

" This is why we are establishing this vanguard to make you our advocates because together we can fight against and kick out the human traffickers and end violence against persons in Nigeria," Offiah said.

He noted that key factors like poverty and insecurity among others could be a push for people to be enticed by the traffickers, but hard times do not last.

While inaugurating the vanguards, Offiah urged them to be of good behaviour and not become bullies but diligent students to speak and preach against issues of human trafficking in the society.

In an interview with NAN, the principals of Igbonine Grammar School, Ozoro and St. Michael's College, Oleh, Mrs Evelyn Onothoja and Mrs Bridget Onojerame respectively, pledged their support to ensure that the project succeed in their schools.

They also plan to share the information to the parents at Parents Teachers Association meetings and to support the students vanguard to organise debates, and sensitise the community and the churches on the issues about human trafficking.

The head boys and Presidents of the schools Clubs, Favour Owhe and Reginald Osame also pledged their resolve to sensitise their peers on the dangers of human trafficking and the attendance evil of dehumanising impact of being deceived and trafficked. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
