Asaba, Sept. 4, 2025(NAN) The Igbo group under the aiges of Igbo Unification Movement and Ndi Na Asu Bia Social Cultural Organisation, on Thursday reiterated their support for the creation of Anioma state for equity.

The group in a communique issued following its recently held two-day conference at Okapanam, Delta state capital territory, Asaba, said Anioma, as the sixth state, if created would complement the Eastern region of Nigeria.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the gathering of the Igbo group, has as its theme: "Igbo Bu Ofu (Igbos are One)."

The communique which was signed by its President, Chief Onyenwemmadu Kainebi;  Secretary/Legal Adviser, Ofochi Atagana and Chief Chikeobi Agada, Chairman Local Organizing Committee, was read by its President, Kainebi.

According to the group, the call is for greater unity of all Igbos in Nigeria, equitable distribution of infrastructure and more federal projects in the region.

"We express our full support for the quest of Anioma state, for the sake of equity and justice to the Igbo speaking group in Nigeria.

While urging greater unity  of Igbo speaking people down to the coasts of Nigeria, it condemned those entities and circles that either sponsor or permit themselves as instruments of Igbo division, dismemberment, and land-locking.

The group, however, said that unlike many other nationalities, “Igbo dialects are close, mutually intelligible, and facilitating easy and smooth interactions”.

The group lauded President Bola Tinubu for the perceived gradual improvements in security nationwide.

It, however, insisted that a lot more needed to be done to strengthen the security architecture and ensure relative peace and security across the country.

It, therefore, call on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency lift what  they alleged to be ‘the economic blockade unfairly imposed on the Igbo almost 60 years' by past governments at the centre.

According to them, the economic blocked was responsible for the closure of the main Igbo coastal ports of Port Harcourt, Bonny, and Opobo.

"The Federal Government should dredge, modernize, and functionally reopen those coastal ports to re-trigger a pole of development in the East, with spillover effects to the Middle Belt and down to Lake Chad," the group asked.

They lauded Sen. Ned Nwoko, Senator Representing Delta North Senatorial District, for his unmatched efforts to have the Anioma state created.

The group appreciated Delta Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori,  represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Johnson Erijo for  supporting the movement.

Also, the Keynote Speakers, Emeritus Profs. Uzodinma Nwala; Obasi Igwe; Chidi Osuagwu; Chinedu Ewonye; Paul Opone) and HRH Nwachukwu Anakwenze, Head of the World Igbo Congress, were commended for their support.

Accordingly, the delegation of Igbo indigenous communities in attendance were from  Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Benue, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Kogi, Rivers States.

Others came from all parts of the Igbo society - Anioma to Etche, Igbanke, Igweocha (Port Harcourt), Ikwerre, Ndoki, Ngwa, Opobo, Ubani (Bonny), Ukwuani, Waawa, and many others from the diaspora.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng).
