Asaba, Oct. 20, 2025 (NAN) The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Delta Command, has advised motorists, passengers, and pedestrians to make safety a personal choice, by avoiding distractions, obey traffic rules and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.

Mrs Joy Alexander, Sector commander FRSC, said this on Monday at the 2025 Ember Months Campaign Flag off for Delta with the theme “Take Responsibility for Your Safety Stop Distracted Driving,”

According to her, the ember months is a period that demands collective responsibility and heightened vigilance from all road users.

“Ember months are characterised by increased movement of people and goods, heightened commercial activities, and unfortunately, a corresponding rise in road traffic crashes.

“This year’s campaign theme aligns perfectly with the Corps Marshal’s vision of reducing road traffic crashes through attitudinal change.

“Distracted driving- whether through phone use, fatigue, or divided attention-remains a major cause of preventable crashes. Every driver must understand that safety on the road begins with personal responsibility,” she said.

She said that in Delta, the Federal Road Safety Corps had taken deliberate steps to ensure a safe and hitch-free movement of people and goods throughout the period.

“To ensure better traffic management, there will be increased visibility through route lining, traffic control points, and special patrols in crash-prone areas.

“The Command will intensify enforcement operations to prosecute recalcitrant offenders, particularly those involved in speeding, overloading, use of phones while driving, seat belt violations, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

“We are also working closely with transport unions, security agencies, and other stakeholders through town hall meetings and collaborative patrols.

“Our collective goal is to ensure smooth movement of people and goods across the state during and after the festive season.(NAN) (nannews.com.ng)
