Asaba, Oct. 14, 2025 (NAN) Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has urged employers of corps members to support and treat them like integral part of their organisations.

Oborevwori said this on Tuesday at the closing of the orientation programme of Batch B Stream 1 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to Delta.

The exercise took place at the NYSC Orientation Camp, in Issele-Uku.

Oborevwori was represented by the state Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr Trakiriowei ThankGod.

“I appeal for your continued support for these young men and women to settle down quickly.

“Their talents, energy and contributions are vital to the growth of your establishments and to the progress of our State,” he said.

He urged corps members to engage positively with their host communities as they embarked on their primary assignments.

“I encourage you to approach them with open minds, free from prejudice, and be willing to learn, serve and innovate.

“Where you see challenges, do not complain; bring forward constructive solutions. Delta State is blessed with warm, hospitable and peace-loving people.

“Live in harmony with them, respect their traditions and values and you will find cooperation; you will be welcome wherever you go, just as they have done with your predecessors,” he said.

He urged corps members to embrace hard work, integrity and consistency as their guiding principles.

“Our country needs young men and women who can think outside the box, who can turn challenges into opportunities, and who can transform ideas into tangible results.

“Life’s obstacles are inevitable, but your courage and determination in overcoming them will shape your destiny.

“As you step into the larger society, let me remind you that the world you are entering is vastly different from what it was in the past.

“Gone are the days when a university degree alone guaranteed employment and comfort. Today’s reality demands adaptability, creativity and innovation.

“The true secret of success lies not in mere luck but in passion and perseverance, doing what you love, whether or not you are immediately rewarded,” he said.

The governor urged corps members to minimise their travel time, embarking on trips only when necessary.

He said that statistics showed that the leading cause of fatalities among corps members was road traffic accidents, often due to needless travels.

Mr John Kwange, the State Coordinator of the NYSC commended the State governor for his unwavering support in driving the ongoing infrastructural transformation within the orientation camp.

“The reconstruction of the camp’s perimeter fence, which is currently in progress, stands as a testament to your responsive and purposeful leadership.

“When completed, it will strengthen our security architecture and bring relief from the recurring incidents of vandalism that have challenged our operations in recent months,” he said.

Kwange urged corps members not to see their posting as a statutory obligation but as a unique opportunity to write their own chapter in the history of Nigeria.

“As you move into the next phase of your service year, I implore you to be innovative, courageous and compassionate.

“Let your service embody the ideals of unity, peace, and progress.

“It is noteworthy that over the past three weeks, you have not only acquired knowledge but have also been imbued with enduring values.

“This has been through diverse lectures and engagements on security awareness, national integration, cultural tolerance, teaching methodologies, and financial literacy.

“You have been adequately prepared to make meaningful contributions in your respective places of primary assignment,” he said. (NAN)(nannews.com.ng)
