Gov. Oborevwori counsels corps members on discipline, patriotism

The Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has urged members of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) to always uphold the values of discipline, patriotism and diligence.
The governor, represented by Mr Kingsley Emu, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), gave the advice at the opening and swearing-in ceremony of 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I orientation exercise on Monday.
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN)reports that ceremony held at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Issele Uku.
He urged the new corp members to conduct themselves in a manner that would bring honour to their families, institutions, and the nation.
“As young Nigerians, you are serving at a time when our nation requires innovation, resilience, and a renewed commitment to progress.
“I urge you to see yourselves as ambassadors of unity, hope, and positive change.
“Embrace the opportunity to interact with fellow Nigerians from diverse backgrounds and build friendships that strengthen our national cohesion,” he said.
He said that the NYSC scheme remains one of Nigeria’s most enduring platforms for promoting national unity, integration, and youth development.
“The orientation course is designed to prepare you for the responsibilities ahead.
According to him, the state government recognises the importance of the NYSC scheme in nation-building and grassroots development.
He restated government’s commitment to supporting the welfare of corps members and improving facilities at the camp.
“In line with this commitment, the state government recently provided 200 bags of rice and 10 cows to support the feeding and welfare of corps members during the last orientation exercise.
“We also renovated the camp perimeter fence to enhance security, commenced work on the internal road network, and concluded arrangements for the provision of beddings for the newly constructed 700-capacity male hostel.
“These interventions reflect our determination, under the M.0.R.E. Agenda, to provide a secure, conducive, and befitting environment for Corps members serving in the state,” he said
He commended the management and staff of the NYSC for their dedication and commitment to the ideals of the scheme.
“I also appreciate the invaluable contributions of corps members continue to make in the areas of education, healthcare, agriculture, community development, and other critical sectors of our economy.
“My dear corps members, as you begin this national assignment, Delta State is peaceful, hospitable, and full of opportunities.
“I encourage you to make the most of your stay here and leave lasting positive impacts wherever you are posted,” he said.
Mr John Kwaghe, State Coordinator of NYSC,Delta, commended the state government’s unwavering commitment to youth development, national integration, and the continued success of NYSC scheme.
“The donation of food items as feeding augmentation and payment of N50,000 each to corps members during the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II orientation programme, was quite commendable and exemplary.
“We shall continue to count on Your Excellency’s continued support in the provision of basic facilities in the camp.
He said that a total of 2,000 Batch”A” prospective corps members, comprising 810 males and 1,190 females, were successfully registered.(NAN)(nannews.com.ng)
