Sen. Nwoko lost re-election bid to people of Delta North  -- Ifeajika 




Asaba - Mr Olisa Ifeajika, Executive Assistant to Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori on Public Enlightenment(Projects and Policies) on Tuesday, said Sen. Ned Nwoko lost his re-election bid to the people who elected him in 2023.


Senator Ned Nwoko is the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District under the All Progressives Congress (APC).


Ifeajika stated this at a press conference in Asaba while reacting to the recent court ruling that struck out Nwoko 's suit against former Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa's emergence as the APC candidate for the Delta North Senatorial District for the 2027 general elections. 


He said that it was obvious that Nwoko lost the ticket to the power of the people whose loyalty have shifted to Sen. Okowa to contest in the coming election. 


Ifeajika, former Chief Press Secretary to ex- Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa, said the incumbent Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of the state has no hand in the APC Delta North primaries. 


"The governor did not meddle into the matter and did not support Okowa to win the Delta North Senatorial District primary as APC candidate for the 2027 general elections in the state.


"We know that the governor has his district to look into and know what was happening there and had no reason to meddle into Delta North affairs. 


"The power that Ned Nwoko lost to was the power of the people. Those who put him there earlier in 2023 are those who said no to him(Nwoko) for not representing them very well.


"So, it was the power of the people, not the power of government but the power of the constituent, the people of Delta North that prevailed against Nwoko".


He said that the court striking out Nwoko's suit against Okowa's candidacy of the APC in the Senatorial District was expected because the people of the constituent are fully behind Okowa.


He recalled that the State Deputy Gov. Monday Onyeme had before the party primaries led a delegation of prominent politicians, stakeholders and people of Delta North to ask Okowa to run for the ticket. 


"That was a vote of no confidence on Nwoko, and if Nwoko had good advisers, they would have told him that the game was over. 


"This is because as an aspirant or candidate, you will only be in your unit to vote, while other persons are expected to work for your party in their various units across the constituency or state.


"So, those persons he was expected to work for him, were those who had gone to Okowa to say, please come and run for the seat in 2027.


"Beyond that, when Okowa eventually accepted, he went on consultations across the nine local government areas in the district.


"When Okowa got to Aniocha North(Nwoko's LGA), a counsellor announced that they would buy form for Okowa to contest the primary election against their son," he said. 


Ifeajika said that probably due to obvious reasons, Sen. Nwoko resolved not consult the people of the constituent but declared his re-election bid at the Asaba Airport.


"Nwoko did not consult anybody, family, people of Delta North that he needed a re-election. Our people do not reside at the airport, he only announced it to the airport staff and travellers.


"So, after the primaries, were he got the vote that he won, we do not know but I am sure that as we kept telling the people how the process went, it donned on him that he has lost out of winning the ticket to contest for 2027 elections. 


"Nwoko resorted to the court not laying claim to victory this time but saying that Okowa was not qualified to contest for the primaries, alleging that he(Okowa) did not resign from the Peoples Democrat Party (PDP) before joining APC.


"We all knew how it happened, what could be more resignation than everybody defecting including the state governor, Okowa and everybody in PDP defected to APC which was witnessed by the Vice President, Kashim Shettima and other party stalwarts," Ifeajika said. 


He advised Nwoko to be a partyman, align with party rules and regulations, support the state government, the presidency and the party to win and advance the development of the country.


An Abuja Court on July 14, 2026 struck out the suit by Sen. Ned Nwoko challenging Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa's candidacy of APC for Delta North Senatorial District for the 2027 general elections.
