2027: Oborevwori advises Omo-Agege to shun campaign of calumny

Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta has urged ex-Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege to focus on issue-based campaign, particularly on what he hoped to deliver to the people of his constituent.


The governor spoke through the State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, at a press conference on Friday in Asaba


Aniagwu was reacting to a recent comment credited to Sen. Omo-Agege, who alleged that Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori was threatening his  life.


The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Delta State National Democratic Congress (NDC), Senatorial Candidate for Delta Central, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, on Friday, alleged that over 50 armed men attacked the venue of the party’s campaign meeting in Uvwie in the State.


According to Omo-Agege, the incident which occured during his party's campaign was premeditated, alleging that Erube and his men threatened to kill him and his Uvwie Campaign Coordinator, Olorogun Dr Esere Ejifoma Atumu, if he appeared at the scheduled campaign event in Uvwie.


Omo-Agege said: “I hold Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori directly responsible and culpable for this", alleging that the governor had previously made threats against his life".


Responding, Aniagwu described Omo-Agege’s allegations as a manifestation of earlier predictions of his malevolent plan to try and deceive the people of Delta Central Senatorial district to vote for him in 2027.


The commissioner said that the response to Omo-Agage’s claims of attempted assassination became necessary to protect vulnerable minds from falling prey to the narratives spun by the opposition.


“They have seen the development that has greeted our state in the last three years, and I am very convinced that, as persons who look out for what is good, they will definitely be looking in the direction of Gov. Oborevwori," he said.


Aniagwu said Gov. Oborevwori would rather convince the people of the state  to support his second term bid based on how he had fulfilled the promises he made in 2023,.


"In the first place, Oborevwori is not contesting for a Senate position but  contesting re-election as the governor of Delta State.


"Therefore, they are not on the same ballot. Omo-Agege is not a competitor with Oborevwori in this election’’, Aniagwu said.


He said that rather than Omo-Agege concentrating on his campaign promises, he was trying to cause division in the All Progressives Congress (APC) which he was not able to galvanise when he had the opportunity as deputy Senate President.


"On the contrary, Gov. Oborevwori had mended broken fences and calmed frayed nerves to make APC more united and even more acceptable to the people of the state.


“We will not join Sen Ovie Omo-Agege in his campaign of calumny or such other malicious tactics to delude the people of Delta ahead of the 2027 general election.


"We advise him to focus on issue-based campaign on what he wished to deliver to his constituency instead", Aniagwu said.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng).
